So here we are, after all these jaw-dropping, sickening weeks later of witnessing the ongoing appalling evisceration of our government without due process.
It’s been a cascade of stress (meaning you can’t recover from one trauma before being assaulted by another). We watched the wanton plundering by the Desecrator-in-Chief and his cabal as they gleefully tear our nation from its roots, its values, its history, its character, its promise. It is almost like witnessing a cannibal so perverse it is now ingesting itself. They claim firing government workers is justified by false pretenses under the aegis of fiat-authorized intruders. They assume power and enforce it as goons, directed by totally undemocratic stealthy processes. Cabinet appointments are made of those whose main claim to fame is boosterism and obsequiousness. Destruction of anything tied to the environmental movement or enlightenment or science or that would contribute to the Greater Good or which subjects the usurpers to review, is implemented as a dire emergency.
And, just now, this incredibly horrifying and shameful performance confronting Zelenskyy in the White House by adults as emotionally immature adolescents playing house on the international stage. Any initial semblance of good faith was soon belied by the lack of graciousness, uneven terms, attempts to keep Zelenskyy off-balance, outnumbered representatives on the US side, talking over him, piling on of aggressors, bald grab for power as the intended outcome. Their professed reason for piling on boiled down to Zelenskyy not showing deference and obeisance to their false idol. The proof: Zelenskyy didn’t wear a suit! In fact, he wore a t-shirt! This never seemed to bother Trump when his new fixer, Musk, did the same. But we all do know that one’s veneer makes the man in Trump’s eyes.
They think they are immune because so much of what they wantonly destroy is intangible. Things like trust, what a handshake means, a contract being binding, principles we consider noble, causes bigger than ourselves, compassion, treating people with dignity. These things are real. You can’t weigh or measure them, but only the most ignorant would think that means they don’t have value. And Musk is raiding and pillaging our government data like any robber baron. Yet if Trump hawks bibles so many are duped by that.
As an American, I am horrified at what he represents, of his being the face of our nation to the world at large, of the intimidated fawning Republican legislators who prostrate themselves to avert his overt threats of existential consequences via their political annihilation.
I implore the world not to conflate these ignorant, crude, self-serving behaviors with the majority of our nation. Perhaps this nation’s angst might become a catalyst like yeast, that activates the stunned populace.
I sense a tsunami is brewing.
